The Front Bottoms sound like older Say Anything, but with Tom Delonge singing. They recently toured with Say Anything and complemented them pretty well. 'Skeleton,' 'Santa Monica,' and 'Peach' are all great songs. If you're looking for the same sort of lyrical depth but a different sound, Streetlight Manifesto is great. They're a ska-punk band, so horns play a big part in their music, but they still have that pink vibe. 'Would You Be Impressed?'
'The Three of Us,' 'Point/Counterpoint,' and 'Here's to Life' would be good songs to listen to first. No one does it QUITE like Say Anything, but is the closest thing I've come across. Their record 'Some Things Just Don't Wash Out' is great, the vocalist has the same style of enunciation as Max Bemis. I'd also recommend, their record is full of beautiful songs and Max Bemis himself said they were a rare thing these days in pop punk because they 'actually have something to say'. Other than that, maybe check out some of Against Me!'
Say Anything is an alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, United States in 2001. The band has seen several lineup changes, with founder Max.
S stuff from their album, the guitar tone they use reminds me of.Is A Real Boy a bit, and the singer talks about some deep stuff (he recently came out as transgender and has begun living as a woman, its a pretty inspirational story). Modern Baseball is really good. They have 2 albums and some self released stuff. One of the fun things about them is you can listen to all of their music in about an hour and a half. Check outYour GraduationThe WeekendTears over BeersFine, GreatRe-DoneThey were hugely influenced by Say Anything and Motion City Soundtrack. Definitely worth a listen.I could also recommend Free Throw. Their a little math-y, and a lot like The Hotelier, which someone mentioned in here I saw.Check OutLvl 2 Pidgey in a Master BallNow KithSlam with the best or jam with the restAlso worth mentioning, Motion City Soundtrack, You Blew It!, the front bottoms, the hotelier, Foxing, even The Wonder Years.
If you want song recommendations from any of them let me know.
Outside of the accompanying LPs for John Hughes' movies like Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, no other soundtrack captures the zeitgeist of '80s teen films quite like Say Anything. Though the film itself was only a modest box office draw during its initial theatrical run, it earned a major cult following on home video, and its soundtrack found an audience as well; it launched Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes' as one of the generation's pet-favorite love songs (it was impossible to attend a wedding reception during the '90s without hearing it), brought the Red Hot Chili Peppers closer to mainstream stardom with 'Taste the Pain,' and finally handed the Replacements at least a sliver of mainstream recognition with 'Within Your Reach.' Both the movie and its soundtrack were much smarter than the standard teen fare of the era -- maybe that's why both are still fondly remembered today.
